Brief Description:

Methamphetamine/Ice is a very pure and addictive stimulant that radically affects the central nervous system. The drug is made without much difficulty in illegal laboratories with relatively inexpensive over-the-counter ingredients. With all these combined factors, Meth has the potential to become Australia’s most dangerous mind altering twenty first century drug.

How can you tell if someone is using Ice?

People who are under the influence of methylamphetamine can appear restless, anxious, and very talkative. They frequently speak quickly and in fragments, making them hard to understand. Some users also show impaired judgement, hallucinations, paranoia and increased aggression. They may also experience methylamphetamine psychosis 36 to 48 hours after taking a large dose of methylamphetamine. The effects include hallucinations and delusions. Most methylamphetamine users take the drug continuously for several days at a time. During these “runs,” they usually do not eat or sleep. Meth runs are always followed by a “crash,” during which users sleep for days at a time and experience anxiety and severe depression. While depressed, suicide is a major concern.
Other signs would be used paraphernalia such as plastic bags, foil, lighters, glass tubs, pipes, bongs, broken light globs. For more information Click Here

Ice is usually smoked; it also can be swallowed, snorted, injected or inserted anally.

Short-Term Effects

Methamphetamine/Ice is a potent stimulant, even in small doses. It can increase wakefulness and physical activity and make the person not feel like eating. A short, intense sensation, or rush, is reported by those who smoke or inject methamphetamine. Oral ingestion or snorting produces a long-lasting high instead of a rush, which reportedly can continue for as long as half a day. Both the rush and the high are believed to result from the release of very high levels of the neurotransmitter dopamine into areas of the brain that regulate feelings of pleasure. Methamphetamine has toxic effects. High doses can elevate body temperature to dangerous, sometimes lethal, levels, as well as cause convulsions.

The drug’s effects go beyond just the users. Living or being close to a illegal drug lab where these chemicals are used can make children ill, and while still inside a woman’s womb exposure can lead to a condition called “worm heart,” which requires surviving infants to have surgery. The drug also causes environmental problems derived from its distinctive, home grown manufacturing process.
